Overlays in your webinar with OBS

Sharing knowledge during your webinar is the way to connect with your audience.
However, do not forget this important aspect; make your webinar visually appealing.

Overlays

A webinar or video consists of image and audio. Both are made up of a number of sub-layers. For example, background music and a voice-over quickly make up the audio.
Video is all about moving images and text.

Back to that connection. Do you want to label your video with your brand? Then use an overlay. This is a layer that you put "over" the video. An overlay often consists of a lower third, banner or logo. You use a lower third to display your name and title.

Keeping your logo in view ensures the registration of your brand in the subconscious mind of your viewer. It provides thát connection. In the left example below no overlay has been applied. In the example on the right it is, by using a logo and a lower third. You decide how long you keep an overlay on screen.

An overlay can be static or dynamic. A static overlay is an image that you keep in view throughout the webinar. This is often a logo. In video, the transparency (opacity) of the logo is often scaled to 80%, so that it is not hard on the image. A dynamic overlay is a transparent video that you place over the video or webinar. The appearance of your lower third results in a professional looking video!

Create your own overlay

You can create an overlay in different ways. If you have Adobe lIlustrator, you can download endless free vector templates on Freepik that you can adapt to your own branding.

Use FlexClip if you want to easily create dynamic lower thirds for your webinar. Do not go straight for the most advanced animation, but take the time to find out what suits you. Placing your logo in the top left or right corner of your webinar is a great first step.
